Evenings
Three ways to spend one: the cellar and the fire, the twelve-minute walk down to Aubrelle, or the small card room in the press house. The last of those is optional and separate.
The card room
One room on the ground floor of the press house, with three tables, a fire in winter, and a bar that closes at half past midnight. It has its own entrance from the yard and is not on the way to anything else.
Entry is restricted to people aged eighteen or over, or the legal age where you live if that is higher. Photographic identification is checked at every entry, including for guests we have known for years. Nobody under eighteen is admitted for any reason.
None of it is required. Your cottage, your breakfast, the pond, and the garden are unchanged whether you go in or not, and nothing spent in there affects what anything else costs.
Plainly stated. No wagering is offered through this website. No claims are made about winning. No credit is given, no funds are held, and no loyalty scheme exists. Cottages and play are never sold as one product.
Down in Aubrelle
The old cart track reaches the eastern gate of the town in twelve minutes. From there the street runs west past the restaurants, the theatre, and the square. The licensed gaming rooms are near the gate, which means they are the first thing you reach and the last thing you leave.
Every venue down there is an independent business with its own licence and door policy. We have no financial interest in any of them and take nothing for mentioning them. What we can do is tell you what is open, what is busy, and roughly what it costs.
The last bus up the hill leaves the square at 00:30. After that it is the taxi rank or the lane, which is unlit for the final stretch. Take a torch if you plan to walk; there is one hanging inside every cottage door.
What we ask
- Decide before you go out what you are prepared to lose, and take that number in cash.
- Decide when you are stopping. Guests who set a time enjoy the evening more, without exception.
- Staff will not serve anyone who is clearly drunk, and will find you a lift home instead.
- Ask us to bar you from the card room and it is done immediately, quietly, and without questions.
- Support information is on the responsible play page and pinned inside the press house door.
